What a website actually costs in India.

A business website in India costs between ₹12,000 and ₹55,000 for most companies. A one-page site sits at the bottom of that. A custom web app with payments and user accounts sits above it. The gap between those two numbers is not markup. It is page count, integrations and who writes the content.

The Short Answer

Three price bands, and who lands in each

These are the prices we publish on our own web development page, so you can check them rather than take our word for it. Agencies in Indore, Bhopal and Pune quote in roughly the same bands. Delhi and Bangalore agencies quote higher, often two to three times higher, largely because their office costs are higher.

01

₹12,000 or so: one page

A single landing page with a lead form and WhatsApp click-to-chat. This is the right spend when you are testing an offer or running ads and need somewhere for the clicks to land. It is the wrong spend if you sell five services and want each of them to rank.

02

₹25,000 or so: 5 to 12 pages

The band most businesses land in. Home, services, about, contact, plus a page per service and somewhere to publish. This is the smallest site that can realistically rank for more than your own brand name, because ranking needs a page per intent.

03

₹55,000 and up: a web app

User accounts, a payment gateway, an admin panel, a database. Booking systems, member portals, internal tools. You are no longer buying a website, you are buying software, and the price follows the number of screens and rules rather than the number of pages.

Cost Drivers

Five things that move the number

01

Page count, but only up to a point

Pages two through twelve are cheap because they reuse the design system built for page one. Page forty is expensive again, because at that size you need templates, a CMS and a content model rather than hand-built pages. If a quote scales linearly per page, the agency is billing you for copy-paste.

02

Integrations

A payment gateway is two to three days including testing the failure cases, which is the part people forget. GST invoicing, a CRM, shipping providers and any existing system you already run each add their own build and testing time. Ask for these to be priced as line items. If they are folded into a package price, you cannot tell what you are dropping when you cut scope.

03

Who writes the content

This is the biggest hidden cost and the biggest cause of delay. Waiting on a client to write their own copy is the most common reason a web project runs three months late. Either pay the agency to write it after a proper call with you, or block out the calendar time yourself before the project starts.

04

Custom design versus a template

A bought template costs a few thousand rupees and saves perhaps a week. It also constrains every page you build afterwards, and template code is usually slow because it ships features you will never switch on. For a five-page site the saving is real. For anything you plan to grow, it is a loan you repay with interest.

05

What happens after launch

Hosting for a small business site runs ₹2,000 to ₹8,000 a year. A domain is ₹800 to ₹1,500. Beyond that, ask whether the quote includes bug fixes after launch and for how long, and whether you get the repository and the hosting logins. A build you do not own is a subscription with extra steps.

Questions worth asking before you sign

A quote that cannot answer these in writing is not a quote. It is an estimate that will grow.

FAQ

Frequently Asked Questions

Why do agency quotes for the same site differ so much?

Usually three reasons. City and office costs, whether the design is custom or a template, and whether content writing is included. Ask each agency to break the quote into design, build, content and integrations. Quotes that look wildly different often match closely once you compare the same line items.

Is a cheaper website worse?

Not automatically. A one-page site built properly beats a twelve-page site built on a bloated template. What makes a cheap site bad is a purchased template, no content work and no handover of the code. Price is a poor signal on its own, so check those three things instead.

How long does a website take to build?

A single landing page takes about a week. A five to twelve page business site takes around thirty days from brief to launch. A web app depends on how many screens and rules it has. The slowest step is almost always content approval, not development.

Should I use WordPress or a custom build?

WordPress if you want to edit pages yourself and your needs are common ones, because the plugin ecosystem has already solved them. A custom build if speed matters, if you have logic no plugin covers, or if you want to stop paying for plugin licences. Most business sites are fine on WordPress. Most stores that care about load speed are not.

What ongoing costs should I plan for?

Hosting at ₹2,000 to ₹8,000 a year and a domain at ₹800 to ₹1,500 a year. Optionally a support plan for changes. If the site was built without a recurring platform fee, that is the whole list.

Does a more expensive website rank better on Google?

No. Price buys structure, speed and clean code, which make ranking cheaper to achieve later. Ranking itself comes from ongoing SEO work. A good build does not replace that work, it just means you are not paying to undo a bad foundation first.
